Tor’s a new market for me when it comes to their magazine, but they’ve been on my list of publishers to try for Woven for a very long time. Why? Because they published Wheel of Time. So of course I was thrilled to find that they had a literary magazine as well, and shot something off to them right away.
Submission Time- Any time. They read stories year round.
Genre- They’re looking for speculative fiction, fantasy, and Sci Fi. I sent them a twisted fairy tale, so we’ll see how that turns out.
Payout- 25 cents a word for the first 5,000 words, 15 for the next 5,000. If your story runs longer than 10,000 words, they’ll pay ten cents for every word after that.
Response time- According to their submission guidelines, they respond to every story they get, so get comfy. They say to give it about nine months, then send a query if you haven’t heard from them. Remember, Tor is insanely popular, so they get a lot of work to look at. Be patient.
As always, don’t forget to read their entire submission page here. Best of luck, and let me know if you get accepted so I can put it on the brag board!
