Markets- Write To Done

This is a fun new contest I found recently. I’m hoping to get my rough draft done in time to actually participate in this one.

Write to done is a long short story contest. That means we’re looking at less a short story, and more like a novella. Here’s the fun part, this isn’t a contest that’s going to be judged by a panel. This one’s being judged by America. You’re story will be posted online, and people can go vote for their favorite.

This is an amazing way to get your name out.

Genre- Open

Word Count- 10,000 to 40,000. I told you it was a novella contest.

Sub Date- Undeclared until you register.

Wait Time- Undeclared until you register.

Payout- Same.

Markets- Share A Sale

This post contains affiliate links. Please check out my affiliate page, here.

So, this weeks market is going to be a little different. I’m just starting out with affiliate links, and I wanted to share it with you, so that those of you who are bloggers can learn about it just as I do.

The site I’m working with is called Share A Sale. So far I like it. This will be my very first post with affiliate links, so I don’t have any solid numbers to give you yet, but I might post info quarterly if anyone’s got any interest in that at all. I know some of my favorite bloggers, like Just a Girl and her Blog (Not an affiliate, I just love her.) are posting their income logs quarterly.

So, I looked at a lot of different affiliate sites, and I went with Share A Sale because it seemed really low risk. I could look through a lot of different affiliate companies and decide who I wanted to work for. So I chose three, and got accepted by two.

I like this a lot, because I’m not going to shoehorn a link in somewhere it doesn’t belong. I decide what products I want to tell you about, and I decide when.

As I said, this weeks market is different, because I can’t give you my normal info about what genre or deadlines you’ll have to adhere to. Think of it instead as sort of a partnership between you and the company you’re working with. But here’s a link to the site, so you can look around for yourself and see if it’s something you’d be interested in for your own blog.

Markets- Just 100 Words

Want to enter a writing contest! Great, the deadline’s today. It’s okay if you don’t have anything done, though, there’s another one tomorrow. And the day after that, and the one after that too.

The contest’s called Just 100 Words. Self explanatory, you have to tell a story in only one hundred words. Any theme, any genre, dead line every day. So, what kind of story can you tell in 100 words?

Genre- Open

Word Count- One hundred. Hence the title.

Sub date- Every Day.

Wait time- Twenty four hours or less.

Payout- $50.00

Don’t forget to check out the Paper Beats World Facebook page every Monday for a new literary agent!

Markets- Eldritch Press

This weeks market is a new anthology seeking submissions for a steam punk horror book! Even if I don’t get a chance to submit anything, I might have to buy that. It’s by Eldritch Press, and it’s going to be called The Lost Worlds.

Genre- Steam Punk Horror.

Word Count- Up to 20,000 words, which is rather extensive.

Sub Date- Right now, they’ve extended it, until they’ve got enough quality work to fill the book. So, I’d suggest you write something awesome and hustle.

Wait time- Unspecified

Payout- Eight cents a word. Which, by the way, is a raise over their last anthology, which paid only six cents a word.

Please, everyone send great stories to this one! I’ve got nothing when it comes to Steam punk, but I so desperately want to read yours! Their last book looks great, and is on my wish list right now.

For more places to send your work, don’t forget to check out my Facebook page every Monday for the agent of the week.

Market- Pod Castle

Filling out the ‘Pod’ trilogy of great places to send submissions, this week we’ll be looking at Podcastle. This is a fantasy market, and one that I am very eager to send things to, since Fantasy is sort of what my main focus is. You know, with that fantasy series I’ve been working on for a year and a half now. For your convenience, this is the sister site to Pseudo Pod and Escape Pod.

Right now they’re reading for a theme, called Dirty Jobs. Here’s what they have to say about it on their website-

Every society has them: the hidden jobs that no one knows about, the hard jobs that no one glamorizes, the secret jobs that everyone pretends do not exist.
Every society has them. Every society needs them. Even a society inhabited by magic, myth, and monsters.
Tell me that doesn’t just shoot off ideas in your head.

Genre- Fantasy

Word Count- Same as Pseudo Pod, they want either longer pieces around 2,000 words, or flash fiction at around 500 to 1,000.

Sub Date- Jan 15 to March 15

Wait Time- Unspecified.

As always, here’s a link to the site.

Looking for more market tips?  Check out my Facebook page every Monday for a new literary agent of the week.

Payout- $100 for a longer piece, $20.00 for Flash.

Markets- Pseudo Pod

Awhile ago I posted about a site called Escape Pod. This is a sister website, Pseudo Pod, that’s all about horror. I am a huge fan of scary, macabre, and anything creepy and crawly. So, I love this one.

Genre- Horror.

Word count- they want either flash fiction of around 500 to 1,000, or longer pieces from 2,000 to 6,000 words.

Sub Date- Any time.

Wait time- two months

Payout- $100.00 a story, either length.

Market- Escape Pod

If you write Science Fiction, this is the one for you. Escape Pod’s been around for awhile, but they took some time off from accepting new submissions. They’re back now, though, and ready for your work.

Genres- Science Fiction

Submission Dates- They take submissions year round.

Word count- 2,000 to 6,000 words. So no flash fiction, but nothing too lengthy either.

Payout- Six cents a word

Wait time- It’s not specified on the website, so the rule of thumb is generally three months.
